What Equipment is Required for Balloons?

Balloons systems include several parts:

The envelope (the fabric portion of the balloon), the basket, burners and fuel systems. The material for Aerostar balloon envelopes is made of an exclusive Aerostar Diamond Weave (TM) ripstop nylon with tough, durable coatings for heat and air retention.

The basket is made of wicker, which is strong yet flexible and is aesthetically pleasing.

With so many new synthetic materials to choose from, why still use wicker?  It is still the best choice for strength, flexibility, impact-absorbency, as well as being lightweight.  But looks can be deceiving, and although the walls may be made of wicker the inherent strength and comfort comes from a well thought out marriage of stainless steel framework, wicker, foam padding and leather which will absorb much of the shock on landing.

Burners can come in either single, dual, or triple configurations, and each puts out over 5,000 horsepower. Fuel systems consist of stainless steel propane tank(s) and fuel hoses.

An instrument pack is located in the basket including an altimeter, rate of climb indicator, and envelope temperature sensor.

Other necessary equipment includes an inflator fan, two-way radios, an aircraft radio and some means of transporting the balloon from home to launch site and back.
